Designing Within Constraints: A Challenge We Welcomed
Retail window displays at Takashimaya come with a unique set of rules. No fixtures can touch the walls. No elements can hang from the ceiling. Load-bearing structures must meet strict weight criteria. Every square inch counts—and so does every gram.
Instead of seeing this as a limitation, we saw it as a creative challenge. The result? A lightweight, self-supporting canopy structure that looked as if it floated mid-air.
The entire structure was designed from the ground up. It had to appear effortless, yet stay rock-solid for weeks. Our in-house carpentry team engineered a precise freestanding frame that carried the full weight of the canopy without any external support.
Wall Graphics That Tell a Story
The visual language of the campaign was simple but bold—graphic stripes that ran across surfaces. To create a seamless experience for shoppers and passersby, we installed precision-aligned wall graphics that carried the pattern across corners without breaking the flow.
The walls weren’t ordinary flat panels—they featured display podiums, shadow gaps, and lighting elements. Our team mapped out each section and pre-cut the vinyl graphics to ensure perfect alignment. Every stripe matched. Every edge met. The result was clean, modern, and arresting.

Constructed entirely from lightweight aluminum frames and covered in SwissQ-printed banner material, the canopy curved gracefully across the top of the window display. It appeared to hover—but was firmly secured within the freestanding structure we custom-fabricated.
Unlike typical retail fixtures that rely on wall brackets or ceiling wires, this canopy stood independently. We designed hidden bracing elements that maintained the shape and tension of the banner fabric, ensuring a taut, flawless surface throughout the campaign period.
We tested multiple fabric tensioning methods before settling on a dual-barrel clamp system—simple, secure, and adjustable without tools.
